During our three weeks in Peru and Bolivia, I recorded small video clips along the way with my phone, which resulted in this video. This was my first time filming a video with my iPhone, and I'm definitely going to be doing it more often. There's something about motion that takes you back to a place in a way photos can't. I wish I could have filmed more, but I was super short on iPhone storage and traveling without a computer ( I have since solved that problem by upgrading my phone from a 16gb to 128gb... such freedom!).
Filmed entirely with an iPhone 5s, pieced together in Final Cut Pro, and edited in Lightroom with VSCO.

In other news, we are absolutely blown away to see our blog nominated for Best Travel Blog of 2015 on the Blog Lovin awards! We don't make money with our blog, don't have a strategy, and don't post super regularly. All content is our own, so we just post when we travel. This blog is a fun personal project we started during our honeymoon almost five years ago (time flies!). We've had so much fun connecting with other like-minded travelers on this blog and in person when we're out and about, and hope to keep it up for awhile. We are so honored to be included among some really solid travel blogs, and among top blogs in other categories that I've been reading and loving for years.

I voted for you guys and was excited to see you as an option! I love the way you post when it's right for you, not just because you're supposed to, and I think that's part of what makes me enjoy your blog most. Some of my favorite blogs rarely post regularly.
ReplyDeleteHi Emily, thanks for sharing your perspective! That really made my day. It'll make me feel better next time I'm stressing because I'm behind and haven't posted in a while.
DeleteLove LOVE you blog!!!! I voted for you too, amazing photography and I love your most recent video!!! Congrats on your nomination:);)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Hilary! xo
DeleteThat video! You definitely should do more - it's so great to see everything in video aswell as photos. I tried to take some from our recent cruise around the Mediterranean, but it never turned out so great haha! Also, I was so excited to see you guys as best travel blog, so I totally voted! :)

Thanks for the encouragement, April! Now that I've put the video together, I've definitely been filming more. I bet your videos are great. All of my iphone videos started and ended horribly, but if you clip out the best part in the middle, you'll be surprised how well they actually turn out. Thanks also for the vote. :)
DeleteI really like your blog and usually enjoy all your lovely photography, but the whole monkey tied on a rope in your otherwise great video is pretty sad to see. I don't want to sound like some fuddy-duddy preacher or anything, but as someone who has worked with primates rescued from the tourist industry i feel a bit compelled to say something. Primates are incredibly intelligent and should be free in the wild, not tied up as props. Please, think twice before engaging with those who use them for tourist entertainment purposes. I appreciate not everyone cares about animals as much as i do, but i encourage you to take a few moments to read up on the issues. Here is a great article (link below) that i really hope you will read as it explains the dire situation for monkeys and other endangered animals in Peru much better than i can in a few words. Thank you. http://news.mongabay.com/2014/09/conservationists-use-social-media-to-take-on-perus-booming-illegal-wildlife-trade/
ReplyDeleteHi Lucy, thank you for your thoughtful comment. We didn't pay to see the monkey. We saw it during a quick water break on our way to Machu Picchu. I agree that he would probably be happier in the wild. Thanks for your concern and nice comment. I will keep this in mind for future travels. Best, Julia.
DeleteAmazing video! Definitely vote you.. Good luck! :)

Great job! We've been trying to do video with all of our adventures as well. I picked up a canon G7X that I've really liked for video!
ReplyDeletePS Just casted my vote!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if my first comment went through or not? I just wanted to say I absolutely LOVED your video!!! Can't believe you shot it with your iPhone. Bolivia and Peru are such magical places.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what great videos you could put together these days with just an iPhone, some now-how and lots of dedication. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI missed the voting :(
