We wrapped up our Iceland trip by soaking at the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa before heading straight to the airport. Blue Lagoon is a man made lagoon that has pools of water heated by the lava flow underground. The milky white water is rich in minerals and said to have healing properties. The sun was shining and it was almost blinding as it reflected off the white water, steam, and rocks. We soaked for hours among heads covered in white silica mud masks, in between breaks inside a steam room cave. It was the perfect way to relax after days of exploring and before a long flight home.
Blue Lagoon well worth the money and definitely a spot you don't want to miss in Iceland, even if you are passing through Iceland for only a few hours (the spa is only 20 minutes from the airport).

Beautiful pictures, Iceland is definitely getting on my list of places to visit! So many photographers take such beautiful places there, and I've heard its the land of light!
ReplyDeletehttp://ronny-cakes.blogspot.com
ronnycakes - It was photos from other photographers that convinced us we needed to see it for ourselves!
DeleteYup, I've definitely seen enough to want to see it for myself too! :) by the way, what lens did you use for these pictures?
Deleteronnycakes - We used a 35mm 1.4 for these shots. I hope you get to go soon!
Deletemy word, this looks absolutely wonderful! and these pictures are stunning. what a cool spot! might have to add this to the bucket list!
ReplyDeleteIncredible. These have to be my favourites photos I've seen of the Blue Lagoon yet... Although I've heard it can be overrated & that there are better spots, your photos quite prove the opposite. x
ReplyDeletehttp://mustforwanderlust.blogspot.ca
Must for Wanderlust - It is really popular and can be busy, but for good reason! You can find smaller hot springs pools and saunas in almost every Icelandic city, but nothing like the Blue Lagoon. Go to those as well if you want more solitude. It's really quite fancy and totally worth the money. Something like this would not be any cheaper in the States.
DeleteJust found your blog! You guys are so inspiring. My dream is to be able to do what you guys are doing. Thanks for sharing it with us :)
ReplyDeletelast time I was there, we didn't visit it, but we will some day.

You have such an inspirational blog, I have always wanted to visit Iceland. My boyfriend says it is too much like his home island of Newfoundland so if we are going in that direction we might as well stay for free with his family there. I will convince him yet... hehe
ReplyDeleteShy - I don't know what Newfoundland is like, but if I had family there to visit, I'd go in a heartbeat! Just stop over in Iceland on the way. ;)

ReplyDeleteLovely! We are going Iceland in January! Love your shots!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog through your Instagram photos and I love it! Me and my boyfriend are going to Iceland in March with my parents for a short trip and one of our excursions is to the Blue Lagoon. Your photos are absolutely stunning and I can't wait to visit! I was just wondering though, if the floor of the lagoon is smooth or sandy etc? The water not being clear makes me a little nervous haha!
ReplyDeleteI'm off to look at the rest of your Iceland photos now!
aprileverday - Thanks for saying hi! The Blue Lagoon is man made (though the geothermal water is natural), so the bottom is not scary at all. It's more like a pool with a bit of sand at the bottom. :)
DeleteAmazing pics!! really good post!! check out mines!!!
ReplyDeleteRegards!!!!

okay, you've convinced me. I have been to 20 countries and never seen anything like this. a few things... How long were you there? not including plane tickets about how much should I save? (I get free tickets with my airline miles) would you recommend going in a different month since you said it was so cold? I think that's it for now (:
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!
