We've had a lot of people email asking how much money we spent over a half a year of travel and how in the world we planned our budget. Luckily, Yuriy is pretty crazy about numbers and he kept track of all of our expenses on a daily basis.
We crunched some numbers and created a visual record of money we spent, places we traveled, how we got around, how many Nutella crepes we consumed, how many photos we took, and other fun facts during our 6 months abroad. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you! :-)
Deletethis is very cool, I love how you laid out all the facts and numbers
ReplyDeleteLOVE the infographic!
ReplyDeleteAwesomeness!
ReplyDeleteso cool!
ReplyDeleteSo cool!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful design!! You've got a REAL talent for graphic design, keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! I can't even imagine trying to get through almost 45,000 photos. I'm just finishing up with the 900-some photos from our trip LAST year!
ReplyDeletethis is one of the coolest things i've ever seen!!! you guys give me an intense case of wanderlust! so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteso cool ! what a smart & lucky couple ;)
ReplyDeleteI love graphics like this. I'm impressed that you only spent $25,000 in six months! When I went to Europe by myself for three weeks I think I spent almost $10,000! haha Clearly I need lessons in budget travel.
ReplyDeleteBriel - Haha! We were a little surprised ourselves! If we stayed in Europe the entire time, we would have spent double that, no doubt.
DeleteBeautiful infographic!
ReplyDeletewhoa, $25,000 seems like way too much money to spend. how long were you there for?
ReplyDeleteIt is a lot, but not when you consider how long we were gone. We were traveling for half a year and that's the total for two people. I think it's about what we would spend at home in half a year when you factor in mortgage, gas, groceries, etc.
DeleteLove the infographic too! Great way to convey numbers in a non-boring way:)

This is great, thanks! I have been following this blog in preperaton of my own trip tot asia and australia; I was just wondering if you will put up graph of money spent in each country? It is so difficult to budget for a lot of countries at the same time... Thanks for these though!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - Sorry, I don't plan on making another graph... what country you travel to does make a huge difference in budgeting. Europe and Australia were much more expensive, which is why we spent about half our time in Asia. :)
Deletethis is rad!! I loved looking at the breakdown. I wish every hotel only cost $6.50 per night...dang.
ReplyDeleteOh, me too! I don't think we would own a home if this were the case. :)
DeleteJulia, this is AMAZING! Just got Mike to come over and take a look. So fascinating... and beautifully done to boot! You're so talented, my friend! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is SO cool and SO creative! I absolutely love it. I wish I had the kind of skills to put something like this together! Thank you so much for sharing...
ReplyDeleteamazing! excellent work Julia!

This is amazing! Impressive how you kept track of all these numbers. Even down to the Nutella crepes haha
ReplyDeletethanks, really interesting!
ReplyDeleteLove this! I too love number-crunching, but I'm not sure I'd think to keep track of all this. Makes for some awesome charts.
ReplyDeletei'm interested in the 9.5 books you guys read! which books and who read them?
ReplyDeleteOphelia - We shared most of our books. A couple came with us from home, but most of them we picked up at hostels/used book shops. Off the top of my head, I/we read A Year in the World by Frances Mayes, parts of Religious by Mark Driscoll, Open by Andre Agassi, Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, and The World Is Flat by Thomas Friedman...
Deletethis is awesome!!!! haha love all the details
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! I've been wondering what to do with our travels stats... let's just say it won't be as pretty as this! Total design envoy right now :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see your stats when you post them.
DeleteThis is great! What a fun way to round up your honeymoon trip.
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing!

I love your photos! My fiance and I are planning a similar six month trip for our honeymoon next year. I was wondering what sort of planet tickets you bought - did you get round-the-world tickets or did you buy them all individually?
ReplyDeleteThank you! We just bought our tickets along the way. We did the whole trip on the fly so we weren't sure where we were going to be or when, so we figured this way would be easier for us, maybe.
DeleteJulia! I remember previously reading somewhere that you were able to fund most of your "6 month honeymoon" through friends & family for your wedding gift. Did you use a website to do this so that they would be able to see where the $ was going/towards what is was going to? For example: $50 for a couples massage in Thailand. I swear I remember reading something along those lines somewhere... just can't seem to find where. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Monique, we set ours up using the proofing feature of our photography website (not what it was meant for), but there are easier/better ways to do it now. Check out Blue Print Registry, a new, beautifully designed site that's perfect for a honeymoon registry... https://www.blueprintregistry.com
